William Smiley Churchill, Sr.

William Smiley Churchill, Sr., 91, of Hollidaysburg, PA, formerly of Pittsburgh, PA, died Wednesday, March 26, 2014. He was born on July 27, 1922 in Mt. Oliver, PA. He was the son of Ralph and Minnie (Bartruff) Churchill. Mr. Churchill is survived by his wife of 70 years, Clara Underwood Churchill. He is also survived by one daughter, Carole Lee Panaia, of Indiana, PA, and one son, William S. Churchill Jr., of Hollidaysburg, PA.; one brother Edward Churchill, Ohio; three granddaughters, Carla Kologie and husband Craig, Lorri Shideler and husband James, and Tamara Guttormson and husband Paul; and five great grandchildren Ryan and Nathan Kologie and Anya, Siena and Caden Guttormson. Mr. Churchill was a Lieutenant of the United States Army and served in WWII. He was a Regional Manager for Duquesne Brewery then worked for Schmidt Brewery and Lutheran Distributors. He was an active member of the Hamilton Presbyterian Church. William is preceded in death by his parents, one son, John E. Churchill, and two brothers, Ralph and Erman Churchill. A memorial service will be held Monday, April 7, 2014 at 11:00AM in the chapel at Jefferson Memorial Park on 401 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA, 15236, with Reverend Lance Chapman officiating. Graveside military rights will be conducted by the Nix - Vogel American Legion.
