Ruth (Cooper) Wendkos

May 16, 1927 — September 4, 2011

Ruth Cooper Wendkos Ruth Cooper was born in Philadelphia on July 16, 1927, daughter of the late Annie and Max Cooper, where she grew up with a close extended family, who gathered for Sunday dinners and the Jewish holidays. Ruth married Burton Stanley Wendkos. They had two daughters, Marcy and Madge. Ruth and Burt celebrated their 35th anniversary in 1988 just before Burt died. Ruth enjoyed the following years at Cedarbrook Hill where she met wonderful, lasting friends. She spent her later years in Indiana, PA, near Marcy, where she was warmly welcomed. As a working mother, Ruth managed the books for companies where her sharp skills with numbers and people always made her an integral figure. Ruth was known for her dry sense of humor. She loved playing bridge, fine restaurants, Broadway, and, most of all, her family. She hated having to use a walker and giving up high heels. Ruth died on September 4, 2011. In addition to her loving daughters, Ruth will be missed by their husbands, Gregg Wilson and George Brown, and her adored grandchildren, Benjamin and Jenna Wilson, and Lana Beth Brown. Also surviving are her sister, Estelle (Fred) Bandler, sister-in-law, Elaine (Dan) Siegel, and dear nieces and nephews, Beth and John Halliwill, Amy and Don Garfinkel and their children, Megan and Alex, and Phillip and Nancy Siegel. Ruth's wishes were to donate her body to the Human Gifts Registry. A memorial gathering will be held at the convenience of the family. If you would like to donate in her memory, please consider the Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association, PO Box 105, Glenolden, PA 19036 or the VNA of Indiana County, Medial Arts Bldg., Ste. 3000, 850 Hospital Rd., Indiana, PA 15701.
