Ronald Irwin George, 77, of Homer City, died Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020.
He was born in Pine Flats, the fourth of five children of Ed and Stella George.
Ron graduated from Laura Lamar High School in 1960 and joined the military, being stationed both in Italy and Korea.
He was a quality control inspector for Syntron/FMC in Homer City until the company was moved to Denver. He then held various jobs in management and in the oil and gas industry. His early retirement years were spent as a school bus driver.
Ron was a sports enthusiast both as a spectator and a participant. He played football, baseball, softball, volleyball and tennis. He skied, bowled, fished and was a certified scuba diver. He also loved a good philosophical or political argument. But his greatest obsession, if not his greatest talent, was golf. From his first caddy job at 12, the golf course was where he always wanted to be, even though a club or two was rumored to have been thrown or broken.
Ron is survived by his wife of 47 years, Janet Horrell George; his sister, Katharyn Sunderman; his brothers-in-law; and various nieces and nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, William and Harry George; and his sister, Patricia
Barr.
There will be no visitation or formal ceremony to celebrate Ron’s life at this time. Celebrate his love and friendship in your own way.
