Richard D. Tanner, 84, of Homer City died Monday, March 18, 2013 at Beacon Ridge. He was born June 4th 1928 in Tide and was the son of Ernest and Mary (Albright) Tanner Sr. During his working career, he owned and operated Main Street Service Station with his friend and partner, Bill Williams for 12 years. After 32 years of employment, he retired from R&P Coal Company. Dick was also a member of the UMWA for 53 years. He was a lifelong member of the Homer City United Methodist Church. He enjoyed bowling with his friend, Tom Walker, and spending time with his wonderful neighbors. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and especially great-grandfather. He loved watching and playing with his great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Bernice M. Poole, whom he married on July 1st 1950. Dick is also survived by his daughter, Mary E. Tanner Rokosky and husband William and his son, Larry L. Tanner and his wife Shirlee; three grandsons - Eric W. Rokosky and his wife Kelly; Kevin L. Tanner and his wife Ellen and Craig Richard Tanner; three great-grandsons, Garrett and Caleb Rokosky and Ethan Tanner and one great granddaughter, Sydney Tanner. He was anxiously awaiting the arrival of his new great grandson, baby Tanner. He is the brother of Helen Tanner Getty of Homer City. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Ernest Tanner Jr. and William E. Tanner, who was killed in action in World War II; one sister, Ruth Tanner Haynes and many special nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the C. Frederick Bowser Funeral Home in Homer City. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11AM at the Homer City United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joseph Stains, officiating.
