Pauline Helen Evanko, 93, of Josephine, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2015, at The Communities of Indian Haven. The daughter of the late Peter and Sophie (Wutkiewcez) Skoff, she was born May 7, 1922, in Lucernemines. Mrs. Evanko was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, The Christian Daughters of America and The Slovenian/Croatian Fraternal Union. Pauline was employed as a cook at Pavlin's Bakery and Penn Traffic cafeteria prior to retirement. Pauline was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed baking, cooking, canning, crocheting, listening to polka music, sewing, word searches, and watching the Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Penguins. She cherished watching her great-granddaughter Jordan, when she was a child. Her fondest memories were spent with her grandchildren, as they were the light of her life. She will be sadly missed, but forever in the hearts of those that knew and loved her. Pauline is survived by her two daughters, Patricia A. and husband Ed Pedaci, of Mentor, Ohio; and Joan M. and husband Art Peterman, of Indiana; five sons: John J. Evanko and wife Virginia, of New Alexandria; Ronald E. Evanko and wife Patricia, of Blairsville; George G. Evanko and wife Kathleen, of Josephine; Robert M. Evanko and Carmaline Vallo, of Greensburg; and Dennis J. Evanko, of Josephine. Her brother George Skoff, of Latrobe, and sisters-in-law Mabel Skoff, of Homer City, and Josephine Skoff, of Latrobe, also survive her. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren: Annette McBride (Robert), Tricia Price (Charlie), Brenda Peterman, Michael Peterman (Madelyn), Nettie Mutchler (Steve), Jason Evanko (Hilary), Nanette Heffelfinger (Len), Marcie San Miguel (Joseph), Paula Gartley (Mike), Aaron Evanko, Robert M. Evanko II (Karen), Janine Koutsky (Bill), John P. Evanko II, Dennis Evanko Jr. (Bethany) and Laura Evanko (fiance Derek Willochell); and 21 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Paul Evanko, on June 22, 1966; grandchild Eric Evanko, on Aug. 13, 1996; great-grandchild Marla McBride, on March 13, 2006; daughter-in-law Toni Evanko on March 26, 1994; sisters Anna Piscevich, Bertha Evanick, Frances Peternay, Margaret Semon and Edith Kintz; and brothers, Gabe, Pete, Ed and Steve Skoff. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the C. Frederick Bowser Funeral Home, Homer City. A blessing service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, Coral site, with the Rev. Father Ron Cyktor the celebrant. Interment will follow in the St. Francis Cemetery, Coral. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Communities at Indian Haven, Activity Fund, 1675 Saltsburg Ave., Indiana, PA 15701. Pauline's family would like to give special thanks to the amazing staff at the Communities Indian Haven for the care they provided their mother, to Dr. Cash for all he did, to Dr. Barnes for the care he gave prior to her sickness, and to Asera Care for the compassion and gentleness they showed their family and their mother.
