Paul Nathaniel Bossart Jr., 85, died Monday, Dec. 7, 2015. Paul was born May 24, 1930, in Pittsburgh, a son of Dr. Paul Nathaniel and Eugenia Evelyn (Brown) Bossart. Paul lived in Swissvale as a young child and grew up in Cheswick. Paul graduated from West Deer High School (now Deer Lakes) where he was an athlete on the basketball team and played the trombone and drums in the band. He received his BS degree in geology at Penn State University in 1952 and his post graduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1954. Paul enjoyed golfing, sailing, playing bridge, gardening and cooking (especially making PV seasoning with his daughter, Victoria). He also enjoyed spending time at Nags Head with his family and was a world traveler. He enjoyed watching Penn State and Steelers football, and celebrating the Kentucky Derby. He was a geophysics trainee for Gulf Research in Odessa, Texas, from 1952 to 1954; assistant supervisor for Seismic Interpretation for Canadian Gulf Oil in Canada from 1954 to 1956; system geophysicist for Consolidated National Gas Company, Pittsburgh, from 1956 to 1970; and senior geologist of Peoples National Gas, Pittsburgh, from 1970 to 1979. He was president of Ter-Ex Incorporated in Pittsburgh from 1979 to 1985. He was president and owner of P.N. Bossart and Associates Inc., as a geological consultant, Pittsburgh, from 1985 until his retirement. Paul contributed articles to professional journals, was chairman of the Pine Township Authority from 1966 to 1979, a member of the Pittsburgh Association of Petroleum Geologists and The Society of Exploration Physicists (emeritus). Paul was a member of the Butler Country Club, the Republican Party and was of the Lutheran faith. Paul is survived by three daughters, Carla and husband, Irvin Kochel, of Indiana, Pa., Paula and husband, Richard DeVore, of New Oxford, Pa., and Victoria Bossart, of Indiana, Pa.; four grandchildren, Nathaniel Kochel and wife, Erin, of Pittsburgh, Travis Kochel and wife, Renae, of Seattle, Wash., and Tara Devore and Adrienne Devore, of New Oxford, Pa.; and three great-grandchildren, Brigid Kochel, of Pittsburgh, Wesley Devore, of New Oxford, Pa., and Mason Kochel, of Seattle, Wash. He is also survived by two sisters, Eugenia 'Genie' and Robert Hartley, of East Lyme, and Patricia and Robert Halvorsen, of Calgary, Canada; one sister-in-law, Norma Bossart, of Cheswick; and numerous nieces and nephews. Paul was preceded in death by parents; wife, Jean Troutman, whom he was married to for 54 years on Feb. 21, 1953; infant daughter, Adrienne Elizabeth Bossart; and two brothers, Richard and Dr. Phillip Bossart. Friends will be received from 1-3 and 6-8 on Friday at the C. Frederick Bowser Funeral Home, Homer City. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Hope Lutheran Church, Homer City with Pastor Stephen Bond officiating. Interment to follow in Lakewood Memorial Gardens, Harmarville.
