John T. “Jack” Yard, Jr., 77, of McIntyre, Young Township. (Indiana County) passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 suddenly at his residence.
He was born September 6, 1946 in Greensburg, to the late John T. and Harriet W. (Johnson) Yard and resided in McIntyre, Young Twp., most of his life.
Jack worked in mobile maintenance for the former Penelec Power Plants, including Keystone, Homer City & Seward Plants for 32 years, prior to his retirement in 2009.
His hobbies included playing baseball for coal run, various softball teams, winning the 1975 class C World Softball Championship. You could find Jack at any local football field, baseball field, soccer field, basketball court or track enjoying watching his grandchildren play their various sports. He was a avid member of various social clubs, including Clymer Slovak Club, Saltsburg American Legion, Post 57, various Moose Clubs and the Blairsville VFW and a life member of the Elks. In addition, he enjoyed listening to polka music and traveling to polka dances.
Jack leaves behind to cherish his memory, his daughter, Cathie (Richard) Stiteler of Home, Sons, John T. “JT” (Kelly) Yard of Saltsburg, Bruce E. (Amy) Yard of Spring Church, his grandchildren, Taylor (Jon) Snowden, Hunter Stiteler, Chaise Stiteler, Mitchell Yard, Tanner Yard, Braden Yard, Lucas Yard, and Sophia Yard.
He was preceded in death by his parents mentioned above, his wife whom he married on July 22, 1967 and passed away on March 5, 2015, Catherine “Cathy” (Fedor) Yard, and his sister, Margaret “Peg” Apjok.
Family and friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Friday, Nov. 3rd in the BOWSER FUNERAL HOME and CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 4606 Old US 119 Hwy S., Homer City, (724-479-9422). Additional visitation will be held from noon until the time of funeral ceremonies at 1 pm in the Spring Church Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3623 Lutheran Church Road, Apollo, PA 15613 with the Pastor Brad Ferko officiating. Private burial will follow in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the DENNIS J. DAUGHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 324 4TH. Street, Freeport, (724-295-3100).
