John J. Bencic

John J. Bencic Jr., 54, of Homer City passed away at his home surrounded by his family on August 4, 2012 after fighting a long battle with cancer. He was the son of Helen (Kanick) and the late John Bencic Sr., born March 10, 1958. John was a graduate of Homer Center High School and worked for Homer City Coal Processing Corp. for 34 years before his retirement due to illness in January of 2012. He married his wife Amy Sorg on September 7, 1985. John was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish. He was also a member of the Graceton-Coral Sportsmens Club, Tide Sportsmens Club, Red Barn Sportsmens Club, UMWA local #2193, lifetime member of the NRA and a recent member of Indiana Bow and Gun Club. John was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends. He was a certified PADI scuba diver and enjoyed wind surfing and riding his Harley. He was preceded in death by his father John Bencic Sr. He is survived by his wife of 26 years - Amy (Sorg) Bencic; daughter- Deanna Bencic; son - Evan Bencic and mother -Helen Bencic all of Homer City. He is also survived by his sister Helen and her husband Bruce Mehus of Indiana; sister- Patricia and husband Stephen Andrascik of Brush Valley; sister Fran and husband Rich Strong of Woodbridge, VA as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Friends and family will be received Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the C. Frederick Bowser Funeral Home, Homer City where a vigil will be recited. A Blessing Service will be held Thursday at 10:30 AM at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, Coral Site with Father Ron Cyktor, the Celebrant. Interment to follow in the St. Louis Cemetery. Donations may be made to Our Lady of the Assumption Parish or to the American Cancer Society. Please click here to view the video tribute
