Irene Ann (Rene) Page

July 8, 1927 — September 27, 2019

Hampton, Tennessee

Irene Ann (Rene) Page, 92, of Hampton, Tenn., passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 27, 2019.  She was born July 8, 1927, in Geneva, N.Y.  The daughter of Joseph and Irene (Suberato) Mitchell, Rene was raised in Homer City along with her brother and eight sisters. She was a 1945 graduate of Homer City High School.

Lovingly called “Bun” by her siblings (shortened from “Bundelina,” a name used by her parents when she was young), Rene was sweet, kind, giving and talkative.

Working all of her adult life as a waitress and hostess enabled her to share her warmth and friendliness with others. She worked many years at the popular Stouffer’s Restaurant on Smithfield Street in Pittsburgh. She was a hostess at a local establishment in Hampton, Tenn., well up into her 80s. Rene was always well-dressed, neat and polished. She was small in stature but had a very big heart.

Rene is survived by sisters Rose Pavlik, Betty Rowley, Joann Hanley and Barbara Mitchell, sister-in-law Margaret Mitchell, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands John Birchfield and James Page, sisters Sarah Andolina, Christine Jefferson, Carmella Mitchell, Mary Randolph and brother Joseph A. Mitchell.  Rene was loved and will be missed by family, all of her friends and neighbors in the Hampton area, her co-workers and customers at the Mayflower Restaurant and especially by her dear friend, Debbie.

A mass of Christian burial was held on Oct. 4, 2019, at Our Lady of the Assumption, Lucernemines, followed by interment at St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Indiana. The Rev. Andres C. Gumangan presided. C. Frederick Bowser Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.
