Helen Louise Kowal, 62, Nanty Glo, died Aug. 8, 2014, at her home surrounded by her children. Born Aug. 25, 1951, in Johnstown, daughter of the late Michael and Helen (Tursky) Kowal. Preceded in death by brother-in-law, Steve Oblinsky, and nephew, Thomas Malcotti Jr. Survived by husband, Luke Michelbacher, Nanty Glo; children, Danielle (Gregory) Parana, Katy, Texas; Gretchen (Ryan) Martin, Baltimore, Md.; James Hallahan, Ebensburg; and Mariel K. Michelbacher, Nanty Glo; grandchildren, Lydia, Jack and Nicholas Parana and Allie Reece Martin; and former spouse, James Hallahan, Ebensburg. Sister of Natalie (Bob) Wells, Katy, Texas; Michael (Linda) Kowal, Blairsville; Mary (Thomas) Malcotti, Nanty Glo; and Barbara Oblinsky, Nanty Glo; and special friend, Susie Myers. Member of St. Mary's Church, Nanty Glo. Worked for Southern Railroad, was an insurance agent for Hunter Insurance, Patton. Helen loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also loved gardening, baking and playing the piano. She will be sadly missed by all her friends and family. Friends will be received from 9 a.m. until time of funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Church, Nanty Glo, the Rev. Leonard Voytek, celebrant. Interment, St. Charles Cemetery.
