Gerald Eugene Hamilton, 89, Lucernemines died Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Indiana Regional Medical Center. He was the son of the late Joseph and Suzie (Pennington) Hamilton and was born February 4, 1926 in Glen Campbell, PA. Gerald worked at the coal mines in Lucernemines and later at the Indiana Gazette before retiring from the Oneida mine in Brush Valley. He was a WWII ( Gunners Mate 2nd Class) Navy Veteran having served from 1944-1946 on USS Project and later served in the reserved for an additional six years. Gerald loved to fix televisions, radios and cars. He was a member of the VFW Post #1989, Homer City American Legion, Post #493 and the UMWA Local #1257, Robinson, PA. He is survived by four children, Bonnie Steffey and husband Dan, Lucerneimes; Tammy Barrow, Homer City; Becky Battestilli and husband Mark, Homer City and Amy Henry and husband Tony, Blairsville. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Jean Corosu whom he married on October 12, 1946; daughter, Debbie Steffey; brothers and sisters, Dessie Marie Zometsky, James Henry Hamilton, Virginia Dair (James) Smith, Joseph Charles Hamilton, Margaret Vonletta Volpe, Dolores May Smith and Francis Paul Hamilton. Friends will be received Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the C. Frederick Bowser Funeral Home, Homer City. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, January 6, 2015 at 11 AM at the funeral home with Reverend Tom Spiker, officiating. Interment to follow in the Greenwood Cemetery, Indiana.
