Father Deacon Richard Ciganko Dr. Richard A. Ciganko, known to many as Father Deacon Richard Ciganko, entered eternal life on February 5, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Richard succumbed to the symptoms of Multiple Systems Atrophy. He was born on June 5, 1943 to (the late) Alexander & Claudia Ciganko. Richard was a professor of Art Education at the universities of Indiana University of PA, The Ohio State University, and State University of New York at New Paltz. He touched the lives of many as a mentor and as an artist, musician, author, and poet. He was ordained Deacon at St. Marys Byzantine Catholic Church in Homer City in 2007 where he continued to serve. He also served at St. Annes Byzantine Catholic Church in Clymer. He is survived by Susan, his loving wife of 49 years; his children: daughter, Lara (Daniel) Balach; son Mickel; daughter Tanya (Matt) Woods; son Chrystom (Brittany Brown); his grandchildren Nicholas, Damian, Avian, Katarina, Isabelle, and Olivia. He is also survived by brothers Alexander (Carol) and David (Irena), and their children. He also leaves behind many beloved friends, colleagues, and fellow clergy. Friends will be received Sunday from 4-6PM and Monday from 4-6PM at St. Marys Holy Protection Byzantine Catholic Church, Homer City where a Parastas will be held Monday at 6PM. A Funeral Liturgy will be held Tuesday at 10AM at St.Marys Holy Protection Byzantine Catholic Church, 279 Yellowcreek St., Homer City. Interment will follow at the Mount Saint Macrina Cemetery, Uniontown. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Byzantine Catholic Seminary of SS.
