Dorothy Ann (Romance) Hancherick, 91, of Homer City, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2023, in Indiana, at Saint Andrew's Village, after a brief illness.
Known affectionately as "Dot" by friends and family, she was born July 21, 1932, in Indiana. She was a graduate of Indiana High School, where she was a drum majorette.
Dot was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Anna Romance; her loving husband, John Hancherick; and her sister, Ramona (Romance) Supko.
She is survived by her sons John Hancherick, of Jupiter, Fla., and Ron Hancherick, of Columbus, Ohio; her grandchildren (Drew, Mitchell, and Carly Hancherick); her brother Robert Romance, her sister-in-law Eleanor Romance; many nieces and nephews; as well as her beloved friends, Barb Worcester and Reno Garonzi.
Dot was a loving and kind wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Dot attended St Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church where she was a member of the choir. Dot also served the community as a member of the Homer-Center School Board.
She retired from J.C. Penney's where she worked in the jewelry department for many years. After retirement, Dot was an avid long-distance walker, who enjoyed fishing, attending local high school football and basketball games, spending time with family and friends, and enjoying the outdoors. She especially enjoyed feeding the wild rabbits that visited her yard each morning and ate carrots from her hand. It seems even the wild rabbits could sense that she was a gentle and caring soul.
Per Dorothy's request, her life will be celebrated at a small, private service, the date of which will be determined later.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Dorothy's name to the Alzheimer's Association for Alzheimer's research, or to Saint Andrew's Village, where she resided the last 20 months of her life.
