Dorothy Jane (Colesar) Deptola

December 10, 1917 — January 17, 2012

Dorothy Jane Colesar Deptola, beloved wife, mother and grandmother age 94, of 84 Jacksonville Road, Homer City died peacefully at home on Thursday January 17, 2012 after a brief illness. She was born December 10, 1917 in Black Lick, PA. Daughter of George Sr. and Mary Kovalak Colesar. She was the eldest of 5 children. Dorothy was a lifelong member of Our Lady of The Assumption Catholic Church in Lucernemines She worked in the federal government Agricultural Stabilization Conversation Services offices most of her career and retired from the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Center at IUP. She remained active as an officer in the Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees for many years. Until her husbands death in 1991, they traveled extensively throughout the United States. Dorothy was an avid Pitt Football fan, and an accomplished seamstress and knitter. She loved the challenge of a good crossword or puzzle and was fortunate to share the friendship of both her sisters. Dorothy is survived by two sons, Frank of Santa Ana, CA and Christopher of Louisville, KY, and a daughter, Teresa Preston, who lived with her in her final years. Eight grandchildren: Benjamin Chalich of Newburyport, MA; Jessica Preston of Portland, OR; Dr. Marnie Preston of Eugene, OR, Jeffrey Deptola of Santa Ana, CA and Drew, Dana and Doug Deptola of Louisville. KY. She has two sisters, Georgean Voytek of Black Lick; and Ethel Damon of Murraysville. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Frank Andrew Deptola Sr., her daughter Celeste Chalich, grandson Jonathan Chalich, her parents and two brothers George and William Colesar. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 10 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, Lucernemines Site with Rev. Father Ron Cyktor, the Celebrant. Interment to follow in the St. Bernard Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be given to Visiting Nurse Association Hospice program of Indiana or the Indiana YMCA summer camp for kids.
