Carl Mario Mucci, 86, of Homer City, died Friday, September 25, 2015 at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA. He was born October 20, 1928, in Lucernemines, a son of Domenico and Laura Mucci. Mr. Mucci was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II on the USS Saipan. Prior to his retirement from the U.S. Department of Labor as a Federal Mine Inspector he was a coal miner with Helen Mines. He was a member of the United Mine Workers Association Union, Local 1412 and the American Legion Post 493. He was a member of the Our Lady of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, Lucernemines. Carl was an avid fan of Pittsburgh sports, especially the Steelers and Pirates. He enjoyed gardening and had an interest in Civil War history and visited many battlefield sites. Surviving are his beloved wife of 64 years, Josephine Rizzo Mucci; daughter Laura Valazak and husband Bill of Indiana; daughter Carla Powe and husband Carl of Oakton, VA; son Joseph Mucci and wife Linda Orsello Mucci of Thornton, CO., and sister Natalie D'Angelo, Philadelphia PA. He is loved and will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Michael Valazak, Thomas Valazak, Nicolas Mucci, and Katie Mucci. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Alda Voyten, Leanore Mucci, and a brother John Mucci. Friends will be received Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the C. Frederick Bowser Funeral Home. A Blessing Service will be held Monday morning at 9:30 AM at the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, Lucernemines Site. Interment to follow in the St. Louis Cemetery, Lucernmines, where graveside services will be conducted by American Legion Post 493.
