Anthony Tony Perman, 88, Homer City died April 1, 2016 at St. Andrews Village. He was born November 7, 1927 to Slovenian immigrants Alois Louie and Mary (Sustusick) Perman in Homer City where he lived his life. He graduated from Homer City High School in 1945 as an honor student. Tony held several jobs as a mechanic before buying a service station with partner Clarence Walters. They sold the business when they were drafted into the Army in 1953. Tony was in the Army for two years including service in Korea, where he worked as a mechanic repairing tanks. After being discharged as a Corporal, he went to work for Syntron Company in Homer City as an assembler in the shop. In 1970 he accepted a job as Production Foreman for Penelec at the Homer City Generating Station. Tony believed in community service and did so in many capacities including four years on Homer City Borough Council and eight years as Mayor. He served on and chaired the Central Indiana County Water Authority. He was a life member of the Homer City Volunteer Fire Department including nine years as Chief. Tony dedicated fifty-three years of service at the Homer City Community swimming pool. He was instrumental in opening, maintaining and closing the pool each year. He used these skills to help many friends, neighbors and family members throughout the years. He also did woodworking as a hobby including beautiful carvings. Many people were recipients of these as gifts. He was a life member of VFW Post 1989 and in 2015 he was recognized as a seventy year member of the Slovene National Benefit Society. In 1950 he wed Betty Jane Laverick. They shared forty-six years of happy marriage. He is survived by his four children: Anthony (Penny) of Homer City, Gary (Shirley) of Blairsville, Cindy (Doug) Garrison of Greensboro, NC and Tom (Nellie) of Homer City.
